What's Wrong?
IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH YOUR FRAMING....

Problems with framing, thank goodness, are few and far between. But, if you do have a concern with something I have framed for you, or with work done by another business, here is some helpful information to get you on your way to a solution.

You have picked out the framing for your art very thoughtfully.
The work was executed with great care, and the appropriate materials and techniques were used. Now, sometime later, you look at it on the wall and something is wrong! Perhaps the art behind the matting is no longer straight. How could there be any problems if everything was done correctly? After all the art only hangs on the wall!

Just as any item in the home is subject to wear & tear, so is framed art. This may seem like a strange statement given you don't handle framed art; it is just hanging on the wall!
Here is a list of ways framing may age just by being in a home:

--Any exposure to light from lamps, sun, or fluorescent bulbs can cause fading, and the heat from the sun or halogen bulbs can speed deterioration of adhesives.

--Some methods of cleaning the frame or glass can cause moisture to migrate inside.

--All the household elements of heat, cold, vibrations, humidity; all of these, over time will alter the wooden frames to some extent, and breakdown the adhesives used in the framing, in particular the delicate adhesives used in conservation mounting.

--The art itself, or item framed, may contain contaminates, low quality inks, etc.

--Storage, shipping, and moving, can expose framing to heat, humidly and vibration.

--Time & gravity! Over time gravity is pulling the frame, art, items, mountings and adhesives.

--The most common failure in framed art is the mounting. Mounting is what holds the art in place behind the mat, or what holds items in shadowbox framing. As stated above, this occurs because of the breakdown in the adhesives or mountings, due to temperature, humidity, time, and gravity.

HOW I WILL HELP....
Your framing has been done with experience and care. I am here to listen to any concerns you may have. Given the many variables that can lead to a problem, all solutions will be addressed on a case by case basis.
This is what I will do:

--Talk with you and assess the type of problem.

--I will ask that you bring the framing back to me for further evaluation, or repair. If you would like me to come to your home and pick up the work, my standard on-site fee applies. At the time of this writing there is a minimum charge of $35. for each site visit within the Richmond area. (Subject to change).

--Who will pay for the repair? If repair costs are assessed they will be fair. It depends on the type of problem and age of the framing.
